The invention relates to polymer mixtures which comprise a polyphenylene ether, one or more polyesters and a styrene polymer with side chains consisting entirely or partly of cyclic imino ether groups. The polymer mixtures have good properties, in particular a good impact strength in combination with good flow properties and a good chemical resistance. |
|
DETAILED DESCRIPTION We claim: 1. A polymer composition, comprising: A) a polyphenylene ether or a mixture thereof with a polystyrene; B) a polyester or a mixture of two or more polyesters; C) a styrene polymer with side chains consisting entirely or partly of cyclic imino ether groups; and D) at least one agent to improve the impact strength of the composition. 2. The composition of claim 1, wherein the agent to improve the impact strength is a non-hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated triblock copolymer, the terminal blocks of which are derived from styrene, and the central block of which is derived from isoprene or butadiene, or from mixtures of isoprene and butadiene. 3. The composition of claim 1, wherein the side chains of the styrene polymer of component (C) consist entirely or partially of 2-oxazoline groups. 4. The composition of claim 1, wherein the styrene polymer of component (C) comprises 0. 01-10% by weight of units with cyclic imino ether side groups. 5. The composition of claim 1, wherein the polyphenylene ether of component (A) is a homopolymer which comprises 2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether units; or a copolymer which comprises such units in combination with 2,3,6-trimethyl-1,4-phenylene ether units. 6. The composition of claim 1, wherein the agent to improve the impact strength is an ethylene-propylene-diene monomer elastomer; a functionalized derivative thereof; or a carboxylated ethylene-propylene rubber. 7. The composition of claim 1, wherein the weight-average molecular weight of the impact strength agent is in the range of 50,000 to 300,000. 8. A polymer mixture as claimed in claim 1, characterized in that the polymer mixture comprises an agent to suppress transesterification reactions.
Description:
The invention relates to a polymer mixture which comprises A) a polyphenylene ether or a mixture thereof with a polystyrene, and B) a polyester or a mixture of two or more polyesters, and C) a styrene polymer with reactive groups. Polymer mixtures which comprise a polyphenylene ether and a polyester are known from EP-A-0148774
