A system and method are described for analyzing the performance of a network while processing an application. The method involves measuring and calculating the amount of time nodes are active processing and sending frames, as well as the amount of time that frames spend traversing the network. Graphical user interfaces are provided to effectively present significant measurements and calculations.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION In one aspect of the invention, a method for monitoring network performance is disclosed.
The method monitors a flow having one or more frames within a thread by calculating a node's active time.
This includes the amount of time each frame is processed on a sending node in a network, the amount of time each frame is processed on a receiving node in the network, and the amount of time each frame is in transit across the network.
