Pseudorandom noise having a predetermined frequency spectrum is generated by implementing a finite impulse response filter as an integral part of a feedback shift register sequence generator.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION The invention is the first self-filtering pseudorandom noise generator.
This is accomplished by implementing a FIR filter in a feedback shift register sequence generator by applying a suitable multiplier to interstage shift register signals and summing them together to provide a spectrum of the desired frequency content.
