Baler loading method
| Details |

If the next charge to be stuffed into the baling chamber has not yet reached the desired size and density by the time the stuffing fork and compacting plunger are ready to begin their next operating cycles, the plunger and the fork are temporarily deactivated until the charge reaches full size and density. Thereupon, the fork stuffs the entire charge into the baling chamber in a single cycle of operation for compaction by the plunger. The baler is loaded from the bottom of the baling chamber through an upwardly curved duct that serves both as an accumulating chamber and as a pre-compression area into which the charge is progressively packed by a rotating, retractable finger drum at the lower end of the duct. The plunger closes the top of the duct during such accumulation and pre-compression, and in order to provide ample time for the plunger to retract from the duct when the stuffing cycle commences, the fork moves slowly at first but then quite rapidly once the plunger has retracted. Actuation of the plunger and stuffing fork occurs automatically in response to obtaining the predetermined density of the accumulated charge as sensed by a pressure-sensitive device on the loading duct. |

DETAILED DESCRIPTION Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is: 1. In a baling method, the improvement of: in alternating steps, stuffing successive charges of predetermined size and density into a baling chamber and compacting the same within said chamber; temporarily interrupting at least said stuffing if the charge to be stuffed and compacted is less than said predetermined size and density; and resuming said alternate stuffing and compacting when the deficiency in the charge is eliminated. 2. In a baling method as claimed in claim 1 wherein said stuffing step is automatically initiated in response to sensing that said predetermined density has been obtained. 3. In a baling method as claimed in claim 1, wherein each successive charge is formed in an accumulating chamber prior to stuffing by presenting loose material to the accumulating chamber and collecting such material therein. 4. In a baling method as claimed in claim 3, wherein said loose material is packed into the accumulating chamber to reach said predetermined size and density. 5. In a baling method as claimed in claim 4, wherein said stuffing step is automatically initiated in response to sensing that the charge collecting in the accumulating chamber has reached said predetermined density. 6. In a baling method as claimed in claim 5, wherein said charge formation in the accumulating chamber is carried out below the baling chamber, said stuffing step including lifting the charge upwardly into the baling chamber. 7. In a baling method as claimed in claim 1, wherein said stuffing step includes lifting the charge into the baling chamber from below the same. 8. In a baling method as claimed in claim 1, wherein both said stuffing and compacting are interrupted if the charge to be stuffed and compacted is less than said predetermined size and density.
Description:
