This invention uses a computer program to mine preexisting network configuration data located in a variety of preexisting source network configuration databases. The computer program either creates a new network configuration database from parts of existing network configuration databases or modifies an existing network configuration database. The computer program replaces the current system's reliance upon manual data entry by data engineers to configure the operation of a new telecommunication switch or replace the software in a telecommunication switch that was damaged or requires a new network configuration data configuration. This invention provides accurate and timely customer information, significantly decreases the time interval for engineering a new network configuration database, decreases the research and data entry time, decreases the interval for lab planning and project management, improves network configuration database integrity, provides a cleaner network configuration database, reuses existing data eliminating double data entry, reuses some existing software code, and uses preexisting office data administration tools and provides a platform for future growth and expandability. By accomplishing these tasks, the telecommunication switch manufacturer or telecommunication switch operator saves time, money and decreases time-to-market product and service schedules. |

DETAILED DESCRIPTION We claim: 1. A method of engineering a new network configuration database from at least one source database, comprising the steps of: identifying a network configuration data directory structure for organizing new network configuration data; selecting the source databases containing source network configuration data; identifying and selecting data in source global point code locations to be used in the network configuration data directory from the selected source databases; determining whether a best fit of the source network configuration data can be accomplished and if not, allowing a user to manually engineer the network configuration data; converting the data in the source global point code locations to the new network configuration data; converting the new network configuration data from binary format to ASCII format; and loading the new network configuration data into the network configuration data directory structure. 2. The method of engineering a new network configuration database from the at least one source database of claim 1, further comprising the step of error checking the new network configuration data prior to loading of the data into the network configuration data directory structure. 3. The method of engineering a new network configuration database from the at least one source database of claim 1, further comprising the step of determining whether the new network configuration data is the same version. 4. The method of engineering a new network configuration database from the at least one source database of claim 3, further comprising the step of determining if evolutionary pathways exists if the new network configuration data is not the same version. 5. The method of engineering a new network configuration database from the at least one source database of claim 4, further comprising the step of aborting the engineering of the new network configuration data directory structure if the evolutionary pathways does not exist. 6. The method of engineering a new network configuration database from the at least one source database of claim 1, further comprising the step of determining whether location of the new network configuration data directory structure is empty
