A novel gene (designated PC-LECTIN) that is highly overexpressed in prostate cancer and its encoded protein is described. PC-LECTIN in normal human tissues is restricted to testis, but is highly expressed in prostate cancer. Consequently, PC-LECTIN provides a diagnostic and/or therapeutic target for prostate cancer.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION The invention claimed is: 1.
An isolated PC-LECTIN protein comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO.

The PC-LECTIN protein of claim 1 which is soluble.

The PC-LECTIN protein of claim 1, further comprising a heterologous polypeptide.

The PC-LECTIN protein of claim 3, wherein the heterologous polypeptide is an antigen.

A composition comprising an isolated PC-LECTIN protein the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO.
2 and a carrier.

The composition of claim 5, wherein the PC-LECTIN protein is soluble.

The composition of claim 5, further comprising a heterologous polypeptide.

The composition of claim 5, wherein the PC-LECTIN protein is labeled with a detectable marker.

The composition of claim 5, further comprising an adjuvant.
