A feline hepatocyte growth factor gene and a 15 base pairs-deleted feline hepatocyte growth factor gene. These genes encode a protein having an amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 2 or 4. The feline hepatocyte growth factor and the 5 amino acids-deleted feline hepatocyte growth factor are useful for the treatment of liver diseases, kidney diseases, lung diseases, digestive diseases, cardiocirculatory diseases or cranial nerve diseases.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION The invention claimed is: 1.
An isolated DNA or RNA encoding a protein having an amino acid sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 2 or SEQ ID NO: 4.
2.
A recombinant vector comprising the DNA or RNA according to claim 1.
3.
An isolated host cell comprising the recombinant vector according to claim 2.
4.
A method for producing a feline hepatocyte growth factor having the amino acid sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 2 or SEQ ID NO: 4, which comprises culturing the host cell according to claim 3 and collecting the feline hepatocyte growth factor from the obtained culture.
5.
An isolated DNA comprising a nucleotide sequence as shown in SEQ ID NO: 1 or SEQ ID NO: 3.
6.
A recombinant vector comprising the DNA according to claim 5.
7.
A probe for detecting a DNA molecule encoding a feline hepatocyte growth factor protein, the probe comprising a fragment of the DNA according to claim 5, wherein the length of the fragment is from 200 to 300 nucleotides.
