In a PCI-interface device (20), the present invention autonomously outputs video data (440) from data packets (426) including a header portion (428) and a video data portion (430). The invention receives the data packets (440) in a data packet transfer device (20), and associates an address with a plurality of address fields (428, 418) within the data packets (426). Decoding of the header portion (428) and an address segment within the video data portion occurs to determine whether the header portion (428) comprises a vertical synch signal (407). Also, the address segment of the video data portion is decoded to determine whether the video data portion comprises a horizontal synch signal (409). The invention separates the header portion from the video data portion and then flows the video data portion (430) into a zoom port.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION In light of the above-stated limitations, there is a need for a method and system that integrates zoom video port output from a PCI-interface device that permits integrating zoom video port output from an interface device for an IEEE 1394 Standard or similar communications interface bus.
There is a further need for a method and system that helps to establish a standard for data encoding and compression that works well for evolving systems and components that comply with the IEEE 1394 Standard and similar PCI-interface standards.
There is a further need for a method and system that autonomously generates control signals for video applications from a data packet transfer that is transferred via a IEEE 1394 bus.
In accordance with the present invention, a method and system for extracting control information from packetized data are provided that substantially eliminate or reduce disadvantages and problems associated with previously developed methods and systems for extracting control information from packetized data in an IEEE 1394 Standard or similar PCI-interface device.
In accordance with one aspect of the present invention, there is provided a method and system for autonomously outputting video data from data packets that include a header portion and a video data portion.
The method and system receive data packets in a PCI-interface device.
The data packets are associated with an address and include a plurality of address fields within the data packets.
The present invention further includes the steps of decoding the header portion and address to determine whether the header portion includes a vertical synch signal, and decoding the data portion address to determine whether the data portion includes a horizontal synch signal.
Moreover, the present method and system include separating the header portion from the video data portion and flowing the video data portion into a zoom port.
A technical advantage of the present invention is that it provides a way to autonomously have the video data and control information transferred via a IEEE 1394 Standard or similar bus to a hardware managed window, without any software support once the system is operating
