An image having a plurality of image pixels and a reference image having a plurality of reference image pixels are provided. A plurality of difference values are generated as a function of the image pixels and the reference image pixels, and a plurality of adjustment values are generated as a function of the image pixels. The difference values are then adjusted by decreasing the magnitude of the difference values by the adjustment values. A temporally filtered image is then generated in accordance with the reference image pixels and the adjusted difference values.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION The present invention is a method and system for temporally filtering an image having a plurality of image pixels.
A reference image having a plurality of reference image pixels is provided.
A plurality of difference values are generated as a function of the image pixels and the reference image pixels, and a plurality of adjustment values are generated as a function of the image pixels.
The difference values are then adjusted by decreasing the magnitude of the difference values by the adjustment values.
A temporally filtered image is then generated in accordance with the reference image pixels and the adjusted difference values.
The present invention is also a method and system for encoding an image having a plurality of image pixels.
A reference image having a plurality of reference image pixels is provided.
A plurality of difference values are generated as a function of the image pixels and the reference image pixels, and a plurality of adjustment values are generated as a function of the image pixels.
The difference values are then adjusted by decreasing the magnitude of the difference values by the adjustment values.
The image is then encoded in accordance with the adjusted difference values.
The present invention is also a method and system for generating an image having a plurality of image pixels.
A reference image having a plurality of reference image pixels is provided.
A plurality of adjusted difference values is also provided.
The image is generated in accordance with the reference image pixels and the adjusted difference values, where the adjusted difference values are the result of decreasing the magnitudes of a plurality of difference values by a plurality of adjustment values.
The difference values have been derived as a function of the reference image pixels and a plurality of original image pixels of an original image.
The adjustment values have been generated in accordance with the original image pixels.
