A polymer obtained by polymerizing tricyclo[5.2.1.0.sup.2,6 ]deca-8-yl acrylate or methacrylate in an amount of 100-5% by weight with one or more copolymerizable unsaturated monomers in an amount of 0 to 95% by weight is excellent in transparency, moisture resistance, and heat resistance and is suitable as a material for optical elements.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION It is an object of this invention to provide a polymer excellent in transparency and heat resistance overcoming the disadvantages of known transparent resins.
It is another object of this invention to provide a polymer suitable as a material for optical elements overcoming the disadvantages of known transparent resins.
This invention provides a polymer produced by polymerizing a compound of the formula: ##STR1## wherein R.

1 is hydrogen or a methyl group, or polymerizing a compound of the formula (I) together with one or more unsaturated monomers copolymerizable with the compound of the formula (I).
Thus the polymer has at least a repeating unit of the formula: ##STR2## wherein R.
sub.
1 is as defined above.
