A formulation chamber is disclosed comprising a wall surrounding a lumen containing a device for delivering a beneficial agent. The chamber has an inlet for admitting a fluid into the chamber and an outlet for letting an agent formulation leave the chamber. The chamber is adapted for parenteral use including intravenous delivery for delivering an agent formulation to a patient. |

DETAILED DESCRIPTION I claim: 1. A method for administering a drug to a patient which comprises conducting an injectable liquid from a source through a tubing means connected at one end to said source and connected at the other end to injection means for parenterally administering said liquid to said patient, which comprises directing said liquid through a cell interposed in said tubing means through which said liquid passes, which said cell contains a tablet comprising a drug formulated with a matrix, which matrix controls the rate at which said drug is released into said liquid as it passes through said cell. 2. In a method for administering a drug to a patient which comprises conducting an injectable liquid from a source through a tubing means conencted at one end to said source and connected at the other end to said injection means parenterally administering said liquid to said patient, which comprises directing said liquid through a cell interposed in said tubing means through which said liquid passes, wherein said cell contains a tablet which contains a drug encapsulated in a coating which coating controls then rate at which said drug is released into said liquid as it passes through said cell. 3. A method according to claims 1 or 2 wherein said cell is designed to contain a volume of liquid less than 20% of the minimum volume of liquid which passes through said cell within the space of one hour. 4. An administration set forth for use with a parenteral delivery system, the administration set comprising: (a) a tube for the flow of a medical fluid therethrough; (b) a drug formulation chamber in contact with the tube, the chamber comprising: (1) a wall surrounding a space; (2) an inlet in the wall that communicates with the tube for receiving fluid into the chamber; (3) a drug delivery device in the chamber, which device contains a drug and when in operation, releases the drug into fluid that flows into the chamber, at a rate controlled by the delivery device and essentially independent of the rate of fluid flow through the formulation chamber; and, (4) an outlet in the wall for the flow of fluid containing drug from the chamber
