In a gaseous pollutant destruction apparatus employing a corona discharge reactor for reducing nitrogen oxide compounds (NO.sub.x), a fuel injection system provides a precisely controlled small quantity of hydrocarbon fuel to the corona discharge reactor to facilitate the destruction of NO.sub.x.

One advantage of using fuel to supply hydrocarbons to destroy NO.

x in reduction reactors is that the fuel can be the same as that used for combustion in the engine, thus greatly simplifying fuel storage.
In a preferred embodiment, a computerized control module analyzes the types and amounts of pollutants in the engine's exhaust gas from an exhaust sensor and determines the amount of fuel needed to effectively destroy NO.

x in reduction reactors.
The control module precisely controls the rate of fuel transfer from a pump that feeds the fuel to the reduction reactors.
