DETAILED DESCRIPTION With the above deficiencies of the prior art in view, it is an object of this invention to provide a pickup device for disc players having brake means for preventing a horizontal angular movement of a pickup arm during a downward movement thereof which brake means is reliable in operation and simple in construction.
According to the present invention, there is provided a pickup device for a disc player comprising a pickup arm pivotally mounted at one end thereof on a casing for movement between upper and lower positions, the pickup arm being horizontally angularly movable about the one end, and the pickup arm carrying a pickup cartridge at the other end thereof; an arm lifter operatively engaged with the pickup arm; control circuit means for producing a driving signal; drive means responsive to the driving signal for driving the arm lifter to move the pickup arm between its upper and lower positions; and brake means responsive to the driving signal for holding the pickup arm against the horizontal angular movement during its vertical movement.
