This is a board to transport and convert optical outgoing free-space signals from a spatial light modulator which comprises: at least one detector to process the outgoing free-space signal; at least one signal transmitter to process the outgoing free-space signal; and at least one outgoing optical signal carrier to carry a converted outgoing signal. Other methods and devices are disclosed.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION This is a board to transport and convert optical outgoing free-space signals from a spatial light modulator which comprises: at least one detector to process the outgoing free-space signal; at least one signal transmitter to process the outgoing free-space signal; and at least one outgoing optical signal carrier to carry a converted outgoing signal.
Preferably, the outgoing signal carrier is a waveguide, a fiber-optic cable, or a combination of waveguides and fiber-optics; the signal transmitter is a laser; the board converts free-space signals from a processing module which comprises DMDs and at least one CGH board.
The board may comprise one or more multi-chip module substrates and each of the multi-chip module substrates may comprise the detector, the signal transmitter, the outgoing optical signal carrier and the incoming optical signal carrier.
Alternately, the detector, the signal transmitter, the outgoing optical signal carrier and the incoming optical signal carrier may run vertically on the board.
The board may be used as a portion of a crossbar switch.
