The invention relates to ink compositions, in particular for ink-jet printing, containing as stabiliser a water-soluble compound of formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.1, R.sub.2, R.sub.3, R.sub.4, R.sub.5, L, M and n are as defined in claim 1, to said compounds and to recording materials containing them, and to a process for stabilising ink-jet prints, the stabiliser being a compound of formula (I) or (II).
