A telephone network provides personalized services based on voice identification of a person making or receiving a call. For example, when a person initiates a call, the network executes a speaker identification/verification procedure to identify the person as a subscriber. The identification/verification process provides a virtual office equipment number corresponding to the identified subscriber. The central office switch servicing the outgoing call receives this virtual number and uses it to retrieve a service profile associated with the subscriber. The switch provides a personalized telephone service to the subscriber during processing of the call, using the retrieved service profile. The personalized service may include a number of unique features, such as recording call related data together with data about the identification of the person. For home incarceration or the like, the service may entail monitoring speech communications to detect certain designated words and automatically terminate the call. |

DETAILED DESCRIPTION What is claimed is: 1.
A method comprising: for a designated person, generating service profile data for controlling a sequence of operation in a multiple link communication network relating to provision of one or more communication services through the network; storing the service profile data for the designated person with other service profile data in the communication network; detecting a request to make a call from a predetermined link of the communication network; receiving and processing speech signals from a person making said request via the predetermined link to identify the requesting person as said designated person; instructing a switching office of the communication network to utilize the service profile data for the designated person for processing of the call from the predetermined link through the network; and storing data regarding the identification of said designated person and data regarding said call.

A method as in claim 1, wherein the step of instructing the switching office comprises providing a virtual office equipment number for use in retrieving the service profile data for the designated person.

A method as in claim 1, wherein the step of receiving and processing speech signals comprises comparing information characteristic of the received speech signals to stored speech characteristic data corresponding to a plurality of subscribers.

A method as in claim 1, wherein the communication network comprises a telephone network having a plurality of central offices each of which serves a plurality of communication links.

A method as in claim 4, wherein the plurality of communication links comprise telephone lines.

A method as in claim 1, including the step of transmitting at least a portion of said stored data to a control node.

A method as in claim 1, wherein said stored data includes the identity of said designated person, the date and time and duration of the call.
