A pearlescent composition containing: (a) a dialkyl ether corresponding to formula (I): R.sup.1 --O--R.sup.2 wherein R.sup.1 and R.sup.2, independently of one another, represent linear or branched alkyl and/or alkenyl groups having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms; (b) a silicone compound; and (c) an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of alkyl oligoglycosides, alkenyl oligoglycosides, fatty acid-N-alkyl polyhydroxyalkylamides, alkyl ether sulfates, betaines, and mixtures thereof. |
|
DETAILED DESCRIPTION What is claimed is: 1. A pearlescent composition comprising: (a) from about 1 to 15% by weight of a dialkyl ether corresponding to formula (I): R. sup. 1 --O--R. sup. 2 wherein R. sup. 1 and R. sup. 2, independently of one another, represent linear or branched alkyl and/or alkenyl groups having from 12 to 22 carbon atoms; (b) from about 1 to20% by weight of a silicone compound; and (c) from about 65 to 98% by weight of an emulsifier selected from the group consisting of alkyl oligoglycosides, alkenyl oligoglycosides, fatty acid-N-alkyl polyhydroxyalkylamides, alko ether sulfates, betaines, and mixtures thereof, all weights being based on the weight of the composition. 2. The composition of claim 1 wherein the dialkyl ether is distearyl ether. 3. The composition of claim 1 wherein the silicone compound is selected from the group consisting of dimethyl polysiloxanes, methyl phenyl polysiloxanes, cyclic silicones, amino-modified silicones, fatty acid-modified silicones, alcohol-modified silicones, polyether-modified silicones, epoxy-modified silicones, fluorine-modified silicones, alkyl-modified silicones, and mixtures thereof. 4. The composition of claim 1 wherein the emulsifier is an alkyl or alkenyl oligoglycoside corresponding to formula (II): R. sup. 3 O--[G]. sub. p wherein R. sup. 3 is an alkyl or alkenyl group having from 4 to 22 carbon atoms, G is a sugar unit containing 5 or 6 carbon atoms, and p is a number from 1 to 10. 5. The composition of claim 1 wherein the emulsifier is a fatty acid-N-alkyl polyhydroxyalkyl amide corresponding to formula (III): ##STR5## wherein R. sup. 4 CO is an aliphatic acyl group containing from 6 to 22 carbon atoms, R. sup. 5 is an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group containing from 1 to 4 carbon atoms and [Z] is a linear or branched polyhydroxyalkyl group having from 3 to 12 carbon atoms and from 3 to 10 hydroxyl groups. 6. The composition of claim 1 wherein the emulsifier is an alkyl ether sulfate corresponding to formula (V): R. sup. 6 O--(CH. sub. 2 CH. sub
